Solar—Domestic Hot Water

Affinity Energy domestic hot water systems are highly efficient at converting solar energy into useful water. This type of solar application can last for as long as 30 years, far longer than your standard gas water heater. After 30 years of harvesting the sun’s energy, domestic hot water systems not only pay for themselves, but they also allow you to save precious resources in the environment.

Solar hot water panels provide enough water for nine months each year.

A Viable Investment

Solar domestic hot water heating has been around since the Romans. They work using a solar storage tank. How it works: water enters into the tank and then circulates through the horse shoe heat exchanger and back to the tank. A water/glycol solution is always contained in the panels and plumbing. A pump circulates this solution through the heat exchanger.

A few major breakthroughs over the years have made domestic hot water heating a viable investment. For example:

§         The heat exchangers run a water glycol mixture through your panels that is better for the pumps and panels—and they never freeze.

§         The system controllers determine when the system turns on and shuts off, and set the temperature. These controllers offer greater reliability and adjustability, and energy-efficient.

Tankless Water Heaters

Tankless water heaters are another option. They provide hot water at a preset temperature when needed without storage, thereby reducing or eliminating standby losses. The tankless heaters can be used for supplementary heat, such as a booster to a solar hot water system, or to meet all hot water needs.

Tankless water heaters have an electric, gas, or propane heating device that is activated by the flow of water. Once activated, the heater provides a constant supply of hot water. The maximum flow rate at a desired temperature will be determined by the capacity of the heater. Gas tankless water heaters typically have larger capacities than electric tankless water heaters.

Tankless systems deliver on demand.

Why use a tankless water heater?

§         Endless water supply.

§         You save on energy as there is no pilot light or storage tank to be kept heated all day.

§         Small, light weight and hangs on a wall.

§         Designed and built to last 20 years.

§         Most energy-efficient water heaters on the market.
